Is this only for students who are not heading to university?

Accepted Answer

No, and it is the most common misconception we meet. The capabilities LIGHTBULB develops apply as much to a student aiming at IIT-JEE, Oxbridge, medicine or law as to one heading into an apprenticeship. Employers in every one of those fields now screen for digital fluency, commercial understanding, communication and critical thinking, and they do so regardless of grades.

What do students actually leave with?

Three things. A certificate for every course completed. A competency profile tracked across twelve competencies, showing development over time rather than a single snapshot. And the vocabulary to talk about both - which, at interview, is worth considerably more than the certificate itself.

How are students assessed?

Assessment is built into each course and designed not to add a marking burden. Competency development is tracked separately, through the Beyond Education framework, so that measurement of skills is not simply a teacher's impression recorded at the end of term.

Is the certification a recognised qualification?

Accepted Answer

It is a certificate of completion, issued by DEfactoED as a UK Registered Learning Provider (UKPRN 10093762). It is not a regulated qualification in the way a GCSE or an IB Diploma is, and we do not present it as one. Its value is as evidence alongside academic attainment, not as a substitute for it.

Who decides what “improvement” means?

Not us, deliberately. The competency framework is Beyond Education's, built on the Center for Curriculum Redesign's Four-Dimensional Education model and validated through peer-reviewed research. We designed the courses to develop those competencies; the organisation that defines and measures them is independent of us. A provider marking its own homework is exactly the credibility problem that skills programmes usually have.
